Deactivation is a temporary closure of your account. In this case, you may opt to reactivate your account within specified days. The days vary from country to country.

Generally, an account gets reactivated when you sign into it within 40 days of closing it. The period is longer if your account is registered in Australia or New Zealand (90 days), and Brazil or Taiwan (180 days).

During this cooling period, all your information is only hidden; it is not deleted. Post-deactivation period your account will be terminated permanently.

  • After the deactivation of account, you won’t be able to edit or remove your information; it is advisable to take copies of your emails, files, and contacts.

  • If you are closing a child or family account then before closing the parent account, you need to close all child accounts

Your email address may be taken by someone else

Once your yahoo account is deleted, the address that you previously had can be allotted to anyone who is signing up for a new account. If you change your mind and want to resume using your account, you might find out that the address is no longer available.

Besides that, having a new owner for an email address that was previously owned by you can cause all sorts of problems.

You can reactivate your account

Deletion of your Yahoo account isn’t an instant thing. The deactivation of the account is, but the termination isn’t.

If you log into your Yahoo account within 40 days from deleting it, you still have a chance to retrieve your data and email address. Since it wasn’t deleted, others can’t sign up for it just yet.
