Why to Appear Offline on Facebook Messenger?
Before answering your question How To Appear Invisible (Offline) on Facebook Chat, why shouldn’t we have a look at “why” to do so? That only seems fair, right?
Now there are a number of reasons why you might want to hide your “online” status from your friends and family.
- If you’re a student, you clearly don’t want your parents or relatives yelling at you about wasting your time.
- If you aren’t in a mood to entertain chat messages.
Now the question arises, what does “appearing offline” mean? There are quite a bit of disillusion surrounding the topic so let me clear some of them.
- Appearing Offline doesn’t mean you won’t receive any messages. You still will.
- You also will be notified of every incoming message.
- The only difference it will make is, you won’t have that “green light” which indicates your online status for your friends.
How To Appear Offline on Facebook Messenger
So finally down to the section you’ve been waiting for. Here’s how to appear offline on Facebook Messenger.
How to go offline on Facebook Messenger? Method #1 on Android Devices:
Fire up your messenger app, and click on the options button (the three lines at the very last of the bottom row!)
Then choose “active” from the top bar.
And simply slide the slider to “off” position on the right side of your name.
Done! You’ve successfully made yourself “offline” on Facebook Messenger on Android.
Method #2:- How To Appear Offline on Facebook Messenger on PC
If you’re using a computer, there are ways for you to tackle this problem over there as well.
Just go to messenger.com and click on the ‘settings gear” icon.
Choose “active contacts” from the list that pops up.
And finally just slide the slider to “inactive” just like we did with the android app!
Other Facebook Tricks Worth Mentioning:-
Many of you might not know but there are quite a lot “fun” elements Facebook added just last week, can’t let it pass without mentioning them, right?
1:- New Masks and Layovers
There’s an adaptive and interactive Masks and layovers feature included recently to the messenger app.
You can choose from nearly a 100 different masks and themes and layovers for your images. What I meant by “adaptive” earlier is, some of those masks have this self-adjusting feature.
So they automatically sense your body parts, in the likes of eyes, nose, lips etc and position themselves where they ought to be.
While those which aren’t adaptive, can be increased or decreased in the size, as well as be rotated.
Open the app > Go to the chat box of the person you want to send the picture to, and tap on the camera button.
Now tap on the “smiley face” at the top of the screen and a lot of themes, layovers and icons would come up.
Choose any mood or mask from the screen and tap on it. It would take you back to your camera with the theme applied, so all you’ve to do is, adjust your face and snap the picture!
2:- Secret Conversations:-
Honestly, I know not how “secret” these conversations are cause I refuse to believe a billion dollar organization like Facebook would ever provide you with full anonymity.
But anyway, just open up the chatbox of the friend you want to talk secretly with, and tap on the “info” button on the top-left corner.
After that, just select “secret conversation” from the list.
A new popup box would come up where you can send your text!
And it doesn’t end there! If you click on the “timer” icon, you even get to select the duration for which you want to keep the message in the receiver’s folder before them being deleted.
And well, another one of the “secret” features is that, the message which you sent automatically gets completely blurred after 3 seconds of you sending it.
So even if someone gets access to your device, they won’t be able to squeeze out the meaning of those messages no matter what!
So that was all I had as far as this How To Appear Offline on Facebook Messenger piece is concerned folks. Hope this piece helped, if it did, I’d be more than happy to get your feedback in the comments section.
Also, feel free to get us acquainted with any other methods or features you think are interesting and worth being included in this piece, I’ll love to do so.
And I’m pretty sure you already know how to turn off chat on Facebook chatbox, that’s the reason I didn’t include the process here time and again.
Anyway do share this piece on your social media, it might come in handy to someone who’s trying to hide their Facebook activity from the prying eyes of the world.
